As a big fan of Monkey King, I have to put this picture in my blog. ^_^ Actually it's my drawing. I haven't been here since.... summer. And now it's fall. Recently I've watch a couple chinese movies. I haven't got the time to come here and write about them. Kind of busy. Just thought I should drop by and check to see how this blog is doing. ^_^
Anyway, this picture is a drawing of my hero, Monkey King. He's like superman but he's better than superman. hehehe ^__^ It's done by Photoshop with many many layers. The drawing is based on Dicky Cheung.

It's been a while since I come back here. ^_^ Well... today is Father's Day, so happy Father's day to all the fathers in the world.
This is a picture of Monkey King. He's the guy that I have been writing a couple of movies about previously. This is a scene from Journey to the West 1, the TVB version. The actor who play Monkey King is Dicky Cheung. In this scene, monkey king stumble into the all woman land. Every single person or animals are all women. Then how the heck can they have kids you ask? Well there is a well that has this magical water that whoever drink it will be pregnant. Well Monkey King accidently drink this water. 10 days later he supposely gave birth to a baby. He thought he did when he wake up and found a baby laying there with him. Well you see when he found out that's he's pregnant he went up to heaven and ask Lao Zi for the antidote to not be pregnant no more.
That antidote work, but Monkey King didn't know that. He got trick by a bull demoness. He thought that's his baby boy. A guy give birth to a baby that's something there. ^_^
Monkey King was upset that the antidote didn't work and now he has a baby to take care of. The baby cry and cry. There is no milk. (how could there be.) And Monkey King doesn't know how to take care of a baby. He's not fond of the baby at first. But after a while he came to like this kid. (That's how first time father is like isn't it?)
If u know the story of Monkey King, you know that he's on a journey to India to get the buddhist scripture back to the Tang Emperor of China. At first he bring the baby with him, but there are a lot of demons out there that want to get a piece of Monkey King's master when they learn that Monkey King, his master, and brothers all have babies and will be weak to fight with them. Since there are a lot of demons along the way, they decide to go back to the women land. Monkey King decided to give the babies to the nuns. Well, the bull demoness found out and burn the temple where the nuns and babies are at. No one is injure, just the temple. Monkey King decided he has no choice but give his baby to Kuan Yin, the goddess of Mercy. It turns out that the Kuan Yin that Monkey King give the baby to is actually the bull demoness in disguise. =(
Well... we have a problem there right? What would you do if your kids are kidnap? You would go to great strength to get them back right?
Once Monkey King learn about this he's very angry. The bull demon wants them to fight each other to prove her point that all they care are themselves. There are more to the story. I guess you should watch to find out what happen at the end. ^_^
The series is called Journey to the West. Made in 1996 with Dicky Cheung as Monkey King. This series is very funny. Everyone should watch it regardless of age. The problem is I am not sure if there is an English subtitle yet. Maybe there is. I am not sure.

This movie is hilarious. It has lots of famous chinese actors and actresses. This is another of Dicky Cheung's series. I know I have been writing about lots of Dicky's movies, simply because he is my favorite actor.
Anyway this story is center around an uneducated street urchin Wei Xiao Bao (Vi Tieu Bao), who was born and raised in a brothel by his mother. Through a series of misdaventures, he managed to make his way from Yangzhou to Beijing, the seat of Manchurian imperial power, and bumbling accidently into a fateful encounter with young Emperor Kang Xi (Khang Hy). By hook or by crook, but also through a genuine concern and fierce loyalty towards his new buddy the Emperor, Xiao Bao found himself in the greatest of confidences and a complicated friendship of one of the most eminent monarchs of Chinese history.
Beside knowing the Manchurian emperor he also found himself becoming involve with Chan Gun Nam and his secret society to overthrow the Manchurian. This cause trouble between him and the Emperor. Xiao Bao also has his luck with 7 beautiful ladies. Though one die in the end, but 6 of them eventually fall for him and becomes his wives. Isn't he lucky? ^__^
There are alot of version of this story. I watch only 3. I think this one is not so good as the one with Jordan Chan and Steven Ma and another older one with Tony Leung and Andy Lau. There is also a newer one made in 2006, which I haven't watch yet. This is based on one of the great wuxia novel written by Jin Yong called "The Deer and the Cauldron". I haven't read the novel yet. You can easily find one written in Chinese and vietnamese online. I don't know about an English translation. There might be.

Yay!!! I finally got in. I can write now. Sweet...
I just thought I log on one more time to see if I can load the editor to write and this page load. :) But it's sort of my bed time now. I can't write about a chinese movie, unless I stay up late and get yell. But I am not going to risk it.
In the mean time, here is a picture that I draw some time last year.
Who do this remind you of? Could I be an artist someday? I know I sort of make it too dark, because I use a mechanical pencil. It's not a right pencil to draw. There are certain things that needed to be fix. I haven't have the time to redraw this woman again. I am having a hard time drawing people. I need alot of practice. Objects are easy to draw. If you mess up a little, people don't notice. But when drawing people, a little mistake can make your picture look like no one. I think I should learn to draw manga and stick with it, atleast it is not real people. It's easy to draw people's eyes as a big oval shape. ^_^

There are lots of different version of the story, Journey to the West. This one is made from TVB, a hong kong series. It is a little different from the CCTV one I've posted earlier. It's more comical. But it still have a similar story, the story of Tripitaka's journey to India. Well, this movie start out with how Sun Wu kong was born, out of a rock. The Jade Emperor was very angry with the new giant monkey. So he ordered Pigsy to go down and stopped this monkey (Wukong) from destroying the island. Pigsy accidentally chopped the monkey's tail and so the monkey was defeated. Just when Pigsy was about to kill the monkey, Kuan Yin (the goddess of mercy) came down and told Pigsy to spare the monkey's life. With Kuan Yin help, the monkey was still alive and free to go about his business.
The small monkey found his kinds and live among them in Water Curtain Cave as their king. Then one day an old monkey died. The monkey king afraid that one day he too will die and so he decided to go to a nearby island where he heard that there are gods there that could teach him to be immortal. The small monkey used a raft made of coconuts to go to that island. On the island he learn how to talk in human language. He learn how to walk on two feet. With the help of a dragon he was brought to an old man place. He heard this old man know the art of immortality and so he beg the man to teach him. The old man refused saying that the monkey wasn't a child of anyone. The monkey argued with the man that the sky is his father and earth is his mother. The old man finally accepted the monkey and he gave monkey a name, Sun Wu Kong. One day when the kids were supposed to pick their choice of which skill they want to learn, Wu Kong say that he wants to learn how to be immortal. His teacher told him that he had to be burn by fire, struck by lightning, and freeze to death by cold wind for 49 times a day. Wu Kong didn't care. He is willing to take that risk. And so for about 100 years Wu Kong learned the 72 transformations and immortality from his teacher in the World of Illusions. He also learned how to summon the Somersault Cloud. With one somersault he can travel to about 108,000 miles. After he left his teacher he goes back to his home island where he met his 2 old friends, Bull Demon and Iron Fan Princess. With a little misunderstanding, Wu Kong was taking down to hell. He was so angry, that he tore all the books that record all people's deaths. So from then on he and his monkey kind can't die.
A little while after, there was a disturbance under the eastern sea. It flooded the Flower and Fruit mountain, killing lots of monkeys. Wu Kong was angry that he went down under the sea to see what is going on. There he found a giant cudgel that is trying to break lose to find its old master, which cause the flood. Wu Kong pick the cudgel up and toss it in the sky. He went back home. The cudgel follow him home and from then on the cudgel was his weapon.
The King of the eastern sea reported to the Jade Emperor that Wu Kong has taken his cudgel. The King of Hell also went to heaven and reported to the Jade Emperor that Wu Kong went down to hell, create chaos and ripped off all the books of death. The Jade Emperor was very angry. He was about to order his armies to capture Wu Kong but the prime minister stop him. He said that Wu Kong can be tamed. So the Jade Emperor gave Wu Kong a job, the guardian of the heavenly stable. Wu Kong thought that it was so cool at first. Because his job title has 3 words he thought that it means that it is a good position, the lesser the word the better the position. Later he found out that it is not and he return back to earth and declare himself the Great Sage Equal of Heaven. When the Jade Emperor heard of Wu Kong return back to earth without consent, he was very angry. He was about to order his armies to capture Wu Kong, but the prime minister stop him again. This time he told the Jade Emperor to give Wu Kong the job title the Great Sage Equal of Heaven. This is just the title but without power. He can assign two men to watch over Wu Kong and teach Wu Kong proper etiquette. So the Jade Emperor give Wu Kong another chance. Sun Wu Kong didn't know about this trickery until later when the 3 eyes god, Erlang told him. You can imagine Wu Kong blood is boil. :) He went to the Jade Empress's party and wreac chaos there. He eat all the immortal peaches and drink all the wines. When the Jade Emperor found out, he order his army lead by Erlang to capture Wu Kong. The Prime Minister can't stop him this time.
No one can capture Wu Kong. Erlang power only match his 72 transformation powers.
